The Talks – Venezia madre dell’arte. Sguardi antichi e moderni: istruzioni per l’uso

In this Dialogue, Professor Philippe Daverio proposes a re-vision with disenchanted eyes of the history and actuality of Venetian and Veneto painting.

That painting that bears the names of Carpaccio, Giorgione, Mantegna, Titian, Tintoretto, Tiepolo, Canaletto; that also passes among the many that they call “minor” – such as Girolamo da Treviso or Jacobello da Fiore – and that arrives up to contemporaries such as Music, Tancredi, Vedova, or Carlo Scarpa.

How Venice is placed (and how it is seen) today in the Italy that generated beauty is the path of the discussion with Professor Daverio. Questioning the identity of a city invaded by millions of tourists, used to exhibit the art of modernity, but also clogged by problems and controversies, is perhaps the way to find a new language and try to return – in the 21st century – the beauty of the Serenissima to its citizens.
