The World that wasn't there

Florence, Rovereto, Naples, Venice, Helsinki

From 2015 to 2019

The exhibition, which has already achieved great success in Florence and Rovereto, arrives at one of Italy’s most important museums, the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN). On display are the life, customs, and cultures of Central and South America prior to the arrival of Columbus, presented through two hundred archaeological artifacts and works of art.

With “The world that wasn't there, Naples has “discovered America.” After Florence and Rovereto, the exhibition—promoted by the Fondazione Giancarlo Ligabue in collaboration with the City of Naples—comes to MANN, one of Italy’s most important institutions for archaeological and natural history research, where the two hundred objects from the Ligabue Collection are on display.

Presentazione

A spectacular exhibition featuring a body of masterpieces—almost all never seen before—representing the great civilizations of so-called Mesoamerica (covering much of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and parts of Honduras and El Salvador) as well as the region of Panama.

The exhibition also explores the Andes (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, extending to Chile and Argentina): from the Olmecs to the Maya and the Aztecs; from the Chavín culture to the Tiahuanaco and Moche, and up to the Inca.
